Formula and Logic
We calculate daily energy use per bulb as (Wattage ÷ 1000) × Hours of Use. Total energy savings per day is the difference between your current bulb's daily use and the new LED's daily use, multiplied by the number of bulbs.
Annual energy savings are daily savings multiplied by 365. Total savings over your selected period are annual savings multiplied by the number of years. Cost savings are total energy savings multiplied by your electricity rate, minus the total cost of purchasing new bulbs.
Payback period is calculated by dividing the total cost of new bulbs by your annual energy savings per bulb, multiplied by 12 to convert to months. CO2 emissions reduced use the standard US average of 0.85 lbs of CO2 per kWh saved.

- Incandescent bulbs typically last 1,000 hours, while LEDs last 25,000+ hours, so you will avoid 25+ incandescent replacements per LED bulb over its lifespan.
