This calculator uses standard grid carbon intensity conversion methods used in emissions reporting:
- Grid carbon intensity is measured in grams of carbon dioxide equivalent per kilowatt-hour (gCO2e/kWh).
- Total emissions (gCO2e) = Energy Consumed (kWh) × Grid Carbon Intensity (gCO2e/kWh)
- Results are converted to kilograms (kg) and metric tons (MT) for readability: 1 kg = 1000 g, 1 MT = 1,000,000 g
- Energy unit conversions: 1 MWh = 1000 kWh, 1 GWh = 1,000,000 kWh
